Warning signs for termite infestation

While termites are known in the industry as silent destroyers because of their ability to hide within your property without any signs of disruption, certain red flags can emerge, especially with more serious termite problems. Keep an eye out for these types of problems, and call us right away if you see them at your home of business.

  • Bubbling or Cracking Paint
Termites are feeding off of the interior of a structure, so as they approach the surface of it, the paint or coating on the surface will begin to bubble. There might be frass within the bubble, which is what the waste of the termite is called. Walls might also crack in ways that aren’t normal for foundational cracking.
  • Wood Damage
This is the most common sign that termites are eating away at your house. Severely damaged wood will sound hollow when tapped, and can be easily pushed into with a butter knife or flathead screwdriver.
  • Piles of Coarse, Sand-Like Substance
These little mounds are frass, which are fecal pellets from termites that have been ingesting wood.
  • Blistering or Sagging Laminate Flooring
Many people forget that termites could be in the flooring as well as the walls. If your floors are sagging or feeling spongy, then termites could be eating away at the floorboards underneath.
  • Unexplained Cracks Throughout the Property
These cracks can manifest in exterior and interior walls, ceilings, beams, and rafters, as well as decking and wooden fence posts.
  • Suddenly Sticking Doors and Windows
If termites are tunneling inside the frames of your doors and windows, they can make them misshapen and not work properly.
